Michellehas learned that adolescents require a space where they can share their thoughts, feelings, and beliefs and have these disclosures acknowledged. EMDR has been proven to be effective in addressing complex and long-standing issues that have not been impacted by other therapy approaches. EMDR may lead to improvements in a shorter treatment time when compared to tradition, talk-based approaches. EMDR is rooted in the belief that psychological and emotional issues present because of traumatic and disturbing life experiences. Without proper treatment, sights, smells, sounds, sensations, and emotions can trigger memories of traumatic events. EMDR aims at helping you process past traumas and prevent them from impacting your current well-being. EMDR uses eye movement or other bilateral stimulation, combined with a structured process, to help clients process past traumatic and disturbing experiences and address negative beliefs about themselves. The client is carefully prepared for EMDR therapy with a thorough assessment and preparation stage. A typical EMDR session is 60 to 90 minutes in duration.
