Therapy Hamilton Ontario

Therapy Services in Hamilton, ON

Welcome to our practice! We are a group of Social Workers and Psychotherapists, offering our clients a wide range of experience and areas of specialty.

There are a lot of reasons people seek therapy, and we can help all of them. Most commonly, we help people who are facing new challenges or life transitions, or who are experiencing difficulties from the past. The reason that you have come to us is not important; we’re happy and ready to help. We believe that each person has the potential to deal with life’s problems, but past experiences may prevent them from doing so. Together we can work on bringing forward the parts of yourself that are seeking change and healing what has been getting in the way of a fulfilling life.

While we are located in London, Ontario, we are happy to offer therapy virtually to our clients in Hamilton and across Ontario.

We work with adult individuals who are searching for therapy for a variety of reasons. Our clinicians have experience working with clients who have experienced recent stress or trauma, as well as historic abuse & trauma, life transitions, and relationship issues. We regularly work with first responders and individuals of all genders and people from a wide range of sexual orientations and gender identities.

Individual therapy is customized to your unique needs and objectives. In individual therapy, you’ll explore your background and life experiences, then establish goals to accomplish in therapy. Psychotherapy allows you to create lasting change by identifying and healing the root of your pain or insecurity.

Therapy For Trauma

Trauma can be caused by a single incident, such as an assault or accident, or it can be caused by multiple events over the course of a person’s life. The good news is, trauma doesn’t have to be permanent, and you can learn to cope with the emotional, physical, cognitive, spiritual, and behavioural effects of trauma. Our experienced therapists provide trauma therapy using a wide variety of approaches including EMDR, IFS, Somatic Therapy, CBT, Attachment therapy, hypnotherapy, and more.

Therapy For Anxiety, Stress and Mood

It is normal to feel stressed and anxious from time to time, but if you are experiencing chronic feelings of stress and uncertainty that interfere with your day-to-day functioning, counselling can help. Counselling can provide insight into the root causes of anxiety, and help you develop coping skills for when you find yourself feeling anxious.

Therapy For Loss and Grief

When we experience a loss, it can weigh heavily on us for some time, causing a rupture in our sense of what was true and leaving us feeling a longing for what we lost. A therapist can help by providing a secure environment in which to explore our sadness and grief, express our feelings about the loss, and heal from its wounds.

Therapy For Identity and Self Image

If you have spent most of your life focusing on others, it can be difficult to know yourself. Additionally, a sense of self can be easily interrupted by stress, change, and trauma. Counselling is an important and effective support option if you’re struggling with body image concerns, low self-esteem or self-worth, and more.

EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an integrative type of psychotherapy that can assist individuals with healing from emotional distress that results from past disturbing life experiences or traumas. Multiple studies have demonstrated that EMDR therapy can provide the benefits of years of psychotherapy in a much shorter amount of time, sometimes in only a few sessions.

What Kind Of Therapist Do I Need?

Choosing the right therapist for counselling can be a daunting task. With so many types of therapists and counselling services, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and unsure of where to start. When choosing a therapist, it’s important to consider your goals and reasons for choosing counselling. Every practitioner brings a unique perspective, experience, and training, and finding the right fit is an important part of having a good experience.

The good news is that you don’t have to choose between one type of therapy or another. While all our therapists are registered counsellors, many of our therapists draw on multiple modalities in their approach to therapy. If you are struggling with a particular issue, such as PTSD, trauma, relationship challenges, anxiety, or a recent loss, we invite you to review our ‘Meet Our Therapists’ page to read more about the unique approaches of our practitioners.

Why Consider Virtual Therapy In Hamilton

In light of the recent international events with Covid-19 and their subsequent impact on various industries, many therapists have begun offering their services online.

Online therapy has become increasingly popular with many clients for a number of reasons, including:

• Needing the flexibility to stay home to care for children or dependents

• Staying home due to pandemic restrictions or limitations

• Wanting to work with a particular therapist outside their geographical area

• Feeling more comfortable seeking therapy from home

If you choose to work with one of our therapists virtually, rest assured that our online counselling options are compliant with Ontario’s Privacy Health Information Protect Act (PHIPA) and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
